SEND Offer

School SENCO: Joe Howard

SEN Code of Practice (2014)

We ensure that both children and parents are appropriately involved in all discussions and decisions about individual support and provision. The children’s needs are always at the heart of our provision and decision-making.

If you are worried about your child in any way then please speak in the first instance to your child's class teacher who can then arrange a meeting with other relevant staff.

At Elizabeth Selby Infant School we are committed to equality of opportunity and access to all areas of school life for all pupils. We aim to promote inclusion by ensuring all lessons are accessible to all children regardless of their Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. The children at Elizabeth Selby Infant School are taught to help one another and respect each other's differences.

SEN Information Report

Sensory Room

Our sensory room is a specially designed room that combines a range of fun and exciting stimuli to help our children develop and engage their senses. These include lights, colours, sounds and sensory soft play toys all within a safe environment that allows the children using it to explore and interact without risk.

Specialist Classes

Elizabeth Selby Infant School proudly offers two specialist classes for children with autism: the Chestnut Class and the Hazel Class. Supported by Phoenix School, we use the Phoenix Steps and the SCERTS Model to assess and support our students. The Chestnut Class caters to children between Steps 1 - 14 who are Social Partners, while the Hazel Class serves those between Steps 15 - 24 who are Language Partners. This structured Autism pathway allows children to progress from the Chestnut Class to the Hazel Class, ensuring continuous development and tailored support. Both classes provide high levels of intervention and teaching, including sensory stories, speech and language therapy, music therapy, sensory circuits, swimming therapy, and more. With additional funding from Tower Hamlets, we ensure a nurturing environment where children make remarkable progress and development. Regular visits from the Phoenix Outreach Team further enhance our provision, ensuring the success and growth of our students.
